Announcing DropWire TUI & Zero-Copy Engine v0.1.0
When we built the core DropWire CLI, our goal was simple: provide the fastest, most secure way to send files between two computers across the internet without any middleman storing the data.
Today, we are radically upgrading the user experience while simultaneously turbocharging the underlying engine. We are thrilled to announce DropWire TUI (dropwirex) and the new Zero-Copy Architecture.
Meet DropWire TUI (dropwirex)
Sometimes a simple command-line flag isn’t enough when you’re managing complex transfers. dropwirex is a fully interactive Terminal User Interface built entirely in Rust using ratatui.
It wraps the powerful DropWire engine in a gorgeous, visual dashboard directly inside your terminal:
1. Interactive File Browser & Batching
Forget typing out long absolute paths. dropwirex drops you right into an interactive file browser. Use your arrow keys to navigate, and press Spacebar to toggle multiple files and folders at once for a bulk batch transfer.
2. Live Sparkline Dashboard
Wondering what your network is doing? The new Transfer Dashboard features a live, CSS-inspired animated sparkline chart visualizing your actual network throughput in real-time, complete with chunk-level progress validation.
3. Custom Aesthetic Themes
Your terminal, your rules. By pressing [C], you can open the built-in Config Editor to toggle between completely distinct color palettes, including Cyberpunk, Matrix, Nord, and Monochrome.
4. Persistent Transfer History
Did you successfully send that archive last week? Press [H] to view a complete historical log of all your sent and received payloads directly inside the UI.
The Zero-Copy Engine Upgrade
While the TUI makes DropWire beautiful, the backend makes it a beast. In this release, we’ve entirely rewritten the underlying file reading logic.
DropWire now leverages a True Zero-Copy Architecture (std::borrow::Cow<'a, [u8]>). Instead of copying file bytes directly into RAM arrays, DropWire memory-maps files directly from the disk and streams them asynchronously to the network transport layer.
This drastically cuts down CPU and RAM overhead, maximizing your native disk IO speeds and saturating gigabit LAN connections effortlessly.
Get Started
The new TUI and zero-copy engine are available today.
Download DropWire or install the TUI directly via script:
curl -sS https://dropwire.tyes.dev/install-tui.sh | sh
We can’t wait to see how fast you transfer.
